A Clinical Study on Perinatal Breast Feeding



Abstract
In developed counturies, the practice of breast feeding has increased two-to three-fold over the past 20 years. In contrast, the practice of its decreased by lack of knowledge about benefits of breast milk and mass advertizing of artificial
formulas in
Korea. Therefore, we have inducted a survey to measure perinatal experiences associated with breast with breast feeding.
Eighty-six cases of perinatal women were clinically studied at the I Hospital in Pusan City from May to June 1995, and following results were obtained through a questionnaire or interviews:
1. Demographic variables-age, education, fed method when mother was a baby occupation- were not affect to the prenatal experinece of brest feeding.
2. The majority of cases experienced breast feeding(82.6%) during perinatal period.
3. Most common problems associated with breast feeding were milk leakage, inability to measure actual intake amounts of milk, and frequent feeding demands of babies and so on.
4. The majority of respondent's family have positive attitudes toward breast feeding.
